Music review #1

Even though i listen mostly to rock and heavy metal, i decided a long time ago that i should give other new albums chances too...even though they're not rock.
So...here are my opinions....on rock albums and others.

Metallica - "Death Magnetic"

On Metallica's last album i'd have to say congratulations! "Death Magnetic" is the missing link between "...And justice for all" and "The Black Album". Metallica being my favourite band ever, i've waited for this album for a long long time, and i was actually anxious to see how it sounds and maybe a little scared, because their previous one wasn't so good. But "Death magnetic" is infinitely better than "St. Anger", and some would say even better than Load and Reload. I don't really agree with the last statement, because i believe that Load/Reload had a different sound to them, therefore not really up for comparison.
I like all of the songs on this album, but my absolute favourites are: The Day that never comes (a "one" like song), Unforgiven III (that has a completely different sound than the other two, but still sounds really good, and has great lyrics), Cyanide and The Judas Kiss.
All in all, Metallica proves that they can still kick serious a**, that they are not getting older, but they are getting better, still the Gods of Heavy Metal; the overall sound is great, the lyrics are good, Hetfield's voice is as brilliant as ever, Hammett's solos are back and oh how we've missed them, Robert...well, he should've been their bass player since Cliff died, and Lars...still moody but a neverending source of energy. Very proud. Fantastic work, guys! 10/10 (10 out of then, the biggest grade there is.)

Pink - "Funhouse"

Even though the title says Funhouse, the feel of the album is far from it. Most songs are fantastic, and it is a great album, but it's incredibly sad. That's how it makes me feel after i listen to it. The pain and the sadness that she felt while recording this album is piercing through.
"Sober" is not only THE BEST song on that album, but one of the best songs i've heard in quite a while. If u haven't heard it yet, check it out: (oh, and also greaaat video)

Other songs that i enjoy on this album are "So what", "Bad influence", "Funhouse" and "One Foot wrong".
9.5/10

Britney - "Circus"

While pink's album is named funhouse, this one's named "Circus". As far as britney's music goes, this album is quite good. I'm only going to compare her to herself cause if i compare her with others, she doesn't stand a chance. This album could be the comeback that people expected. I've read that it might reach nr 1 this month. Good for her. From this album, i like "womanizer", "circus", but i like "phonography" and "lace and leather" even better.
7/10

Christina Aguilera - "Keeps getting better - a decade of hits"

Even though i adore her, i don't have much to say here because this album is made mostly of old songs. The new songs: "keeps getting better" and "dynamite", are really great, though. Just thought i should mention it. Greatly looking forward to her new album. You will surely hear my thoughts about it when it comes out.

The Pussycat Dolls - "Doll Domination".

The PCD's long-awaited and thought-it-was-never-coming-out album is great. It's only their second album, and in some ways, it's even better than the first one. Three great singles and videos so far. The Deluxe edition of this album has a nice touch: each one of the girls gets to sing a song solo. I'm guessing the pressure within the band caused this. The talk went probably like: if you still want to have us as a band, let us sing too, not just Nicole. Which turned out to be a pretty good move. i never realised what a great voice Jessica has (listen to "If i was a man").
Some songs are love songs, others are "girls rule" kind of songs, oozing with glamour and attitude. My favourites are: the three singles, watchamacallit, in person, takin over the world (and i hope they'll make videos for these 3 as well), magic, halo and if i was a man.
8.5/10

That's it for today. Coming up in the future: Beyonce-I Am Sasha Fierce; Guns'n'Roses - "Chinese Democracy"; AC/DC - "Black Ice"

Soho Dolls

I've recently discovered a very, very interesting band. It's called Soho Dolls and the best way i find to describe them is "Placebo meets Anne Rice".

They've only got one album so far, it's called: "Ribbed Music For The Numb Generation (2007)" and it is fantastic. I love all of the songs, especially: "Stripper", "The Rest for the Wicked", "Pleasures of Soho" and "No regrets". But the other songs are awesome as well.

Some of you may be familiar with the song "Stripper" without knowing it. For those of you who watch Gossip Girl, this song was used during Blair's striptease scene, in Chuck's club "Victor/Victrola", in episode 7 of season 1.

Happy beyond words

I just came back from a book fair at Romexpo. Hundreds and hundreds of people and soooo many books...beyond words. I bought six books: one that teaches how to play the guitar, two Anne Rice books: "Violin" and "Cry to Heaven", "Rant" by Chuck Palahniuk, a japanese - english / english japanese minidictionary from Oxford...aaaand, my definite favourite, a book written by one my favourite romanian actors: Horatiu Malaele. I admire him sooooo much, beyond words, he's absolutely amazing. Not only did i buy the book, but i got his autograph!!!!!! I stood in line, i was so nervous i was literally shaking...i got in front of him....he signed my book and afterwards (even though i was half fainting and half wishing i could give him a biiiig hug) i thanked him from the bottom of my heart, he smiled and said "with pleasure". I kept shaking for about half an hour after that and i feel like jumping around everytime i remembered that i got his autograph.

Very good day today.

Stand-up comedy

I don't know how many of you watch stand-up comedy, but i recommend, from the bottom of my heart:

Stephen Lynch:

Jeff Dunham:

Adam Ferrara:

“We all die. The goal isn't to live forever, the goal is to create something that will.” - Chuck Palahniuk

I thought this would be a nice way to start this new experience...bear with me, i'm new at this. Chuck Palahniuk is one of my favourite authors and i like that quote. I mean, isn't that what we're doing here? Don't get me wrong, we're not doing something historically important, but it is like a tiny print on this neverending realm of possibilities...the internet.

For those of you who happen to stumble upon my blog, hope you're going to find it at least a little interesting....and i look forward to hearing comments from you.

All the best,
Poison Ivy
